Drain Cleaning: When to Bring in a Professional

Whether you’re a homeowner, business owner, or responsible for the functionality of toilets and drains in a public location, professional drain cleaning is always a good idea when you’re experiencing drain issues. Many people think that store-bought drain cleaners are just as valuable and effective as calling in the professionals—but this is often far from the case.

Here’s why you should always call the professionals at American Plumbing Service for proper drain cleaning.

Pass on Store-Bought Cleaners

When your drains need cleaning, it can be tempting to just run to the store and grab the first drain cleaner you see. However, this approach can often lead to more than just disappointment in results. Many drain cleaners do not work and can make the matter worse.

While some store-bought drain cleaners are effective, it is only because they use harmful, corrosive chemicals. These chemicals may deteriorate the material clogging your drain, but they may also degrade and deteriorate your pipes if used even somewhat regularly. This can lead to expensive, cumbersome headaches down the road—which is much more expensive than first relying on professionals to clear your drains.

Leave it to the Professionals

When you turn to professionals for drain cleaning, you’re not only bypassing the harmful and corrosive effects of store-bought cleaners, but you’re protecting your pipes for years to come. We don’t rely on any harmful chemicals to clean your drains, whether that’s your shower, toilet, or sink. We believe that all methods used should leave your pipes in better condition than before we arrived, and we’re committed to ensuring this is the case with each job.

We use only proven methods to remove even the most stubborn material, so you can rest assured that your pipes’ integrity remains intact during and well after you call us to fix your drain issues.

How do we do this? Instead of harmful chemicals, we use a number of other methods, like drain snakes. This involves an auger attached to a long cord to penetrate stubborn clogs that prevent passage in your pipes. This is a tried and true method, and has been used for years.

But snake draining isn’t the only method. Hydro jetting is an equally effective and popular approach to clearing even the most resistant clogs. This method involves a long, thin hose that forcefully sprays water from an attached head. The high-pressure stream penetrates the material clogging the pipes, and sprays all around the pipes’ walls to ensure any and all material is cleared away. Keep in mind, though, that this method may not be the best approach for all situations; some older pipes may not be in the best shape to handle the force that comes with hydro jetting.

Before we perform any work on your drains, we’ll complete a thorough inspection to make sure that we use only the most appropriate method to clean your drain—without any side effects.
